About 2.5 hours north-west of Kunming. Often combined with Dongchuan Red Land on a photography trip.

Yuanmou Earth Forest 元谋土林
Towers and spires of sand and clay, carved by wind and rain over more than a million years. At Langbapu and Wumao the earth pillars glow orange and gold at sunset. Yuanmou is also where the 1.7-million-year-old fossils of "Yuanmou Man" were found.
