Primeval forest, waterfalls and seas of clouds.
A mountain range between Yuxi and Pu'er, off the usual tourist routes. Often visited on the way from Kunming or Jianshui to the south.

Ailao Mountains 哀牢山
A long mountain range with one of the largest areas of primeval broadleaf forest in China. Get up early for a sunrise above a sea of clouds, then walk in the Jinshan primeval forest among moss-covered trees.
- Cool at altitude – bring warm clothes even in summer.
Nan'en Waterfall and Shimen Gorge 南恩瀑布·石门峡
Near Xinping, the Nan'en Waterfall drops more than 100 m from the cliffs of the Ailao Mountains. A trail continues into the narrow Shimen Gorge with its clear streams.
