Volcanoes, hot springs and the merchant village of Heshun.

Close to the border with Myanmar in western Yunnan. A good place to slow down: old villages, volcanoes and natural hot springs.

What to see

Heshun Ancient Village 和顺古镇

One of the most charming villages in Yunnan, built by merchants who traded with Myanmar. Grey-tiled houses climb the hillside above lotus ponds, and the village library from 1928 is one of the oldest rural libraries in China.

Volcanoes and Rehai Hot Springs 火山·热海

Tengchong lies on a volcanic field with dozens of extinct volcanoes. Climb the crater rim in the Volcano Geological Park, then relax at Rehai, where boiling springs bubble out of the ground and you can bathe in natural hot pools.
